Listen To A Special Mixed Bag Tribute To Pete Fornatale On WFUV, April 28

As listeners of The Alternate Side might know, WFUV and TAS lost our beloved colleague Pete Fornatale yesterday, April 26. This Saturday, April 28, from 4-8 pm EDT,  Pete's longtime friend Don McGee will host a Mixed Bag tribute on 90.7 WFUV. You can also listen online, at WFUV.org/listen.

Pete Fornatale: 1945-2012

We are sad to report that WFUV's friend and colleague Pete Fornatale has passed away after suffering a stroke. The host of Mixed Bag on Saturday afternoons on WFUV had a long and illustrious career in New York radio, and a history at FUV that dated back to 1964. A private funeral mass is planned.

It was a New York lovefest when Brooklyn's White Rabbits visited The Alternate Side in the Bronx earlier this month. Even nicer, the band and its generous label, TBD Records, offered to help out TAS with our Spring Fundrive, going on now.  After the jump, check out a fiery White Rabbits performance of "Danny Come Inside" and more details on how you can get a copy of the band's new album, Milk Famous, and help out The Alternate Side at the same time.

TAS And WFUV SXSW 2012 Coverage Includes Live Broadcasts, Springsteen And Much More

Both WFUV and The Alternate Side will be in Austin this week for the SXSW music festival, the annual aggregation of emerging and established bands and the music industry. We want to bring our listeners down to Texas for the gigs, the barbecues and 6th Street mayhem. Beginning Thursday, March 15 and continuing through Sunday, March 18, TAS and WFUV will be broadcasting and streaming live performances from Alabama Shakes, Shearwater, Sharon Van Etten, Magnetic Fields, Andrew Bird and many more. Plus, look for special band blogs, video streams from NPR Music and on-site interviews on both the TAS and WFUV websites. After the jump, more on our SXSW set schedule, including WFUV's very own showcase.

TAS Takes On Valentine's Day With Not-So-Silly Love Songs

Ah, Valentine's Day. A time of crushes, Cupids, chocolate and champagne. Or a depressing night spent with a dopey Katherine Heigl rom-com while polishing off a pint of Chunky Monkey. No matter what your take on the loveliest - or most loveless - of days, The Alternate Side staff has pulled together some of our favorite songs that we feel express the best and worst of romance.

The Alternate Side is a proud part of WFUV Public Radio from Fordham University,
90.7 FM on your New York dial and online at wfuv.org.
