Thumpers: SXSW 2014 Performance

Childhood friends Marcus Pepperell and John Hamson Jr. regrouped in 2012 after their previous band fell apart, and the two began writing music that would become the first Thumpers songs via email. The London alt-pop duo just released their debut album, Galore, filled with bouncy melodies and fun, catchy songs. Watch Thumpers, defying rain like rugged Brits, perform their single "Unkinder (A Tougher Love)" for FUV and The Alternate Side

The Strypes: SXSW 2014

These Irish teenagers are, apparently, musically wise beyond their years. Dave Grohl, Roger Daltrey and Elton John are counted as early fans of The Strypes—in fact, John signed them to his management company, and was quoted as saying, "they have a knowledge of R&B and blues at 16 years of age that I’ve only amassed in my 65 years." Watch The Strypes cover Bo Diddley's "You Can't Judge A Book by The Cover" for WFUV and The Alternate Side.

Team FUV's Laura Fedele blogs about a tragic night and a heartbreaking morning in Austin. FUV's crew found it tough focusing on work today, but they managed, filming performances by The Strypes, Hozier and Spanish Gold at Hotel San Jose (videos to post shortly).

Glen Hansard: FUV Holiday Cheer Artist

Sure, we all loved Once (the movie), and that great song that won him an Oscar. But that's just a small piece of a career that brought Glen Hansard from his teenage busking roots in Dublin to stages all over the world. From the Frames to his solo work, Hansard has been a force of rock 'n' roll nature — and he'll be one of FUV's guests at our benefit concert Holiday Cheer on December 10 at the Beacon Theatre along with Iron and Wine, Calexico, Nick Lowe and Kathleen Edwards. Check out some sessions with Glen Hansard in the FUV Vault and don't miss out on buying your tickets quickly before they sell out.

Phosphorescent: Live For WFUV From SXSW

Brooklyn's Phosphorescent, the singer-songwriter Matthew Houck,  took advantage of sunny Austin during his live performance for WFUV during SXSW earlier this month, warming up the Hotel San Jose crowd with a set that included "Nothing Was Stolen" and "The Quotidian Beasts." Watch videos of Phosphorescent's set and an interview with Houck. WFUV's South by Southwest 2013 music coverage is graciously supported by TuneIn. Funding for WFUV’s ongoing coverage of live concerts and festivals comes from The Agnes Varis Trust.

Iron And Wine: WFUV And The Alternate Side SXSW 2013

The man best known as Iron and Wine, Sam Beam, performed as part of the Public Radio Rock Day Stage show at SXSW on Friday, March 15. Watch  videos of his live performances of "Naked As We Came" and "Winter Prayers" and listen to Iron and Wine's entire set here. Iron and Wine's new album, Ghost on Ghost, is out on April 16 on Nonesuch in the States.

WFUV And TAS at SXSW: Mount Moriah At Hotel San Jose

Mount Moriah's Jenks Miller and Heather McEntire met working in a record store in Chapel Hill, NC. The folky band's new album, Miracle Temple, is out now on Merge Records. Watch an exclusive WFUV/TAS conversation and live performance with Mount Moriah from Austin's Hotel San Jose.
