TAS Interview (SXSW Artist): Will Sheff of Okkervil River

Okkervil River return with their first album in three years, I Am Very Far, on May 10 and they've been rolling out new material from the record at SXSW this week (they play Antone's at 1 a.m. tonight, which we'll count as late on March 18). The Alternate Side's Russ Borris caught up with frontman Will Sheff for a quick tête-à-tête and was surprised to learn that if it weren't for SXSW, Okkervil River would have never gotten its big break. Video after the jump.

TAS Interview (SXSW Artist): J. Mascis

Dinosaur Jr.'s rapscallion frontman J Mascis, a longtime SXSW veteran, caught up with The Alternate Side's Russ Borris between gigs to talk about his decidedly mellow and acoustic solo album Several Shades of Why. Mascis plays Sub Pop's showcase at Red 7 tonight, March 18, at midnight and has two more showcases, for Mojo and Waterloo Records, tomorrow, March 19. Video after the jump.

Jack White Plays Surprise SXSW Gig

Jack White has been careering around Austin in his lemon-drop gold Third Man Rolling Record Store van, so it wasn't surprising to learn that, like the Foo Fighters last night, he sneaked in a surprise two-song set this afternoon, March 16. And he even played a White Stripes tune.

The Alternate Side is a proud part of WFUV Public Radio from Fordham University,
