Stories by Alisa Ali

TAS in Session: Delta Spirit

Delta Spirit return with a second album, History From Below, on June 8, produced by My Morning Jacket's Bo Koster and Eli Thomson. Recently, band members Matthew Vasquez and Kelly Winrich dropped by The Alternate Side to chat with our own Alisa Ali and play three songs from that upcoming release: "Ransom Man," "Vivian" and "St. Francis."

TAS in Session: The Antlers

Thanks to the success of their critically-acclaimed, deeply moving debut album Hospice, Brooklyn trio The Antlers have been spending more time on the road than at home. They'll open for The National this summer and they'll also embark on their own headlining U.S. tour with Phantogram in April. Recently, the guys were in New York just long enough to come up to the Bronx for a special TAS session with Alisa Ali and played "Bear," "Shiva" and "Sylvia." Videos after the jump.

TAS Interviews: Broken Bells

The Shins' James Mercer and producer Brian Burton (Danger Mouse), the duo known as Broken Bells, tell The Alternate Side's Alisa Ali how their friendship slowly evolved during the recording of their debut album. Plus, surprisingly, Burton reveals that he's putting outside production on the back burner to completely focus on his new band. Audio clips after the jump.

TAS Live Review: We Were Promised Jetpacks At The Knitting Factory, February 8

Scottish bruisers We Were Promised Jetpacks delivered a rowdy, rambunctious, guitar-pummelling show at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn on Monday night and The Alternate Side's Alisa Ali was there.

TAS In Session: Beach House

Beach House, the duo of Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally, released their third album Teen Dream last month. They recently dropped by The Alternate Side to play three tracks live - "Better Times," "Zebra" and "Walk in the Park" - and chatted with our own Alisa Ali about the beauty of a bass synth pedal, Stevie Nicks and why an old album can sometimes be just like an awful ex-girlfriend.

TAS In Session: Hurricane Bells

Longwave's singer and guitarist Steve Schiltz takes off with his side project, Hurricane Bells. He recently visited The Alternate Side for an interview and exclusive live performance (video after the jump), plus he'll be a guest DJ on Alisa Ali's show on Monday, December 28 at 11 am EDT.

The xx, who released one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2009, are tireless road warriors who are set to continue their exhaustive tour schedule in 2010. The Alternate Side's Alisa Ali caught up with Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith prior to a New York gig earlier this month and learned what's ahead for the group as they ponder life as a trio after the recent departure of guitarist/keyboardist Baria Qureshi.
