But we, the staff of The Alternate Side, did our best and though our minds might change tomorrow, this is how it stands for today. A quick survey of everyone's lists has one constant on five out of six lists: Phoenix's Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Plus, it's our birthday - The Alternate Side is a year old today - so we're feeling especially merry and celebratory.

R.E.M. drop their live album, Live At The Olympia, today. It's only the band's second live release (unofficial bootlegs notwithstanding) in their 30-year history. Recorded in Dublin in 2007 during their live rehearsals for last year's Accelerate album, the collection includes not only those tracks, but chestnuts that trace back to the Athens-born rockers' Chronic Town days.

Brooklyn trio, Chairlift stopped by WFUV’s The Alternate Side to perform a few tunes from their debut record “Does You Inspire You?”. By now… you’ve probably heard the band on TV or maybe at your local watering hole. The trio officially went global when Apple paired the new iPod Nano with “Bruises”. Sonically, the band has multiple dimensions. If you like electro-pop, it’s covered. If you like atmospheric synth harmonies, it’s layered throughout the album. The trio started making music for haunted houses (listen to the interview) and shifted directions after leaving Colorado nearly four years ago.

Modest Mouse has announced they will release their 'Satellite Skin' 7" single on May 26th. This collector 7" will be on limited edition orange vinyl with an embossed sleeve and individually numbered to 4000. The never-before-released track 'Satellite Skin' is backed with another new track, 'Guilty Cocker Spaniels.' This special vinyl will be available nationally at retail, with the songs also offered on iTunes.
