Jónsi Birgisson of Sigur Rós Heads Out On Solo Tour
Ethereal Icelandic warbler Jónsi Birgisson of Sigur Rós releases his solo debut Go the week of April 5 on XL Recordings and he's unveiled a generous tour of North America beginning April 6 in Vancouver. Birgisson's itinerary includes a two-night stand at New York's Terminal 5 on May 8 and 9.
A reticent presence in Sigur Rós, Birgisson has been surprisingly chatty, open and playful on his website, detailing the evolution of Go (album art above) with extensive behind-the-scenes studio videos and informal images ranging from a stuffed penguin playing a xylophone to Jónsi's socks to taxidermy-tweaked inspirations for his imaginative live shows.
Birgisson's site also details his stage setup, a collaboration with the UK's 59 Productions which promises to be "drop dead amazing," according to Jónsi's site, mixing both theatre and music.
A new video for his single "Go Do" will be released this week and Jónsi recently spoke to BBC Radio 1 about the album.
