The Alternate Side Weekend Report: May 14th-17th
My iPod died while I was taking the train home recently. No biggie, right? Wrong. So wrong. What would we do without the accompaniment of our favorite tunes on our daily commutes? Music is the only thing that makes the LIRR, NJTransit, and the subway system somewhat tolerable. Need some new music to help you escape the horrors of public transportation? Get a first listen to the best thing that ever happened to your commute by seeing one of these awesome bands this weekend!
Thursday

For your angry track: If you’re feeling slightly angst-y on Thursday, sometimes it’s best to revel in the mood of the moment. Be a rebel with a cause and trendily brood on over to The Studio at Webster Hall to see punkish metal band Goes Cube and party it up with them after the set in honor of their new record release. The show starts at 8pm and is $8. 21
Friday

Your funny, high energy track: Check out Philly’s The War on Drugs at the Bowery Ballroom this Friday for some excellent pop rock and laughs. You won’t believe that this bunch of scruffy looking dudes can turn that frown upside down like all that and an old lady on fire. The show starts at 8pm and tickets cost $18. 18
Saturday

“It’s a conspiracy, man” track: Look no further for your new favorite far out, psychedelic band. My Best Fiend will soon become your bffs after you see them live at The Cameo on Saturday. Their mix of electronica and psychedelia will make you feel cool as a cucumber in any situation. The show starts at 8:30pm and is 21+
Sunday

Your chillax-ing track: Remember The Shins? They were on the fore front of the indie scene way back when. Well, The Shins are still there and going strong. If you haven’t caught them before, catch them now at The Wellmont Theatre this Sunday. Their lovely melodies and thoughtful lyrics will always leave you in a calm place. The show starts at 7pm and is $25. All Ages.
