Savoir Adore At The WFUV And TAS 2012 CMJ Showcase

Brooklyn's Savoir Adore, a synth-pop quintet led by best friends Paul Hammer and Deidre Muro, self-released its sophomore album,Our Nature, the same day as WFUV and The Alternate Side's first CMJ showcase on October 16 — a perfect confluence of celebratory events. We'll rebroadcast our CMJ showcase on TAS on FUV tomorrow, October 19, from 10 p.m. to midnight, or find the entire concert in the WFUV archives.

Indians Join WFUV And TAS At The 2012 CMJ Music Marathon

Copenhagen's Søren Løkke Juul, who goes by the moniker Indians, recently signed to 4AD after releasing a spate of well-received singles. His debut album, Somewhere Else, is due on January 29 (January 28 in the UK/EU) and you can listen to his solo appearance at WFUV and The Alternate Side's CMJ showcase, taped on October 16, when it airs on TAS on FUV tomorrow, October 19, from 10 p.m. to midnight. The long-awaited follow-up to its breakthrough album, 2009's Manners, finds the band spinning shimmering silk from many intricately layered threads: airy synths, warm bass, crisp snares, crashing cymbals, singer Michael Angelakos' expressive falsetto. The pretty, barbed exchanges between Stars' Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan will return later this summer as the Montreal band releases its next album, The North, on September 4 via ATO Records. Even better, the first prescient (and synth-splashed) song from the upcoming album, called "The Theory of Relativity," is being offered via free download on the band's own website, if you surrender your email address.

Last week Rita Houston, music director of The Alternate Side's sister station WFUV, visited Björk at her Brooklyn home studio and chatted with the 46-year-old singer about the scope of the upcoming shows, the challenge of reworking older songs and her life as a part-time New Yorker.
