Win Tickets To The Vaccines At Webster Hall On April 23

The Vaccines' frontman Justin Young was silenced part of last year with vocal problems, for which he had to undergo several operations, but Young is on the mend and the band is back on the road. The Alternate Side is giving away tickets to The Vaccines' show at Webster Hall on April 23 and since the group is already recording its sophomore album, expect to hear new songs.

TAS In Session: Flashback 2011, Part 1

Over the past twelve months, The Alternate Side, alongside our sister station WFUV, has hosted dozens of live sessions in our studio with a vivid, inspiriting array of musicians and bands. We've had the chance to shift from The Antlers' luminous introspections to the muscular, shambolic rock of Man Man and end up at the gentle-but-lethal songwriting of Laura Marling. We wanted to revisit some of our favorite performances from many of those sessions, like The Naked and Famous' stirring "Young Blood" or Beirut's accordion-spurred anthem "Santa Fe," and give you updates on what's coming up in 2012 for many of these artists and bands.

The Vaccines Cancel North American And European Tours Due To Medical Issues

After several recent cancellations of gigs and festival slots due to singer Justin Young's vocal issues, the band confirmed today, August 30, that Young's condition is so serious, he will require his third surgery this year. Admitting that they are "devastated," the band is canceling their upcoming September tour of North American and their European dates in October. They hope to be able to tour with Arctic Monkeys by late October. Read the full statement after the jump.

The Vaccines are not only causing a stir back in the UK, but the London-based indie rock quartet has also managed to kick off a mighty buzz in the States. It's fair to say that they're one of the most anticipated bands playing SXSW in Austin this week. Breaking Bands: Which New Faces Will Cause A Commotion In 2011?

As we boot 2010 out the door and get ready to begin not only a brand new year, but a freshly minted decade, what up-and-coming bands and artists will make their mark on 2011? The Alternate Side staff gazed into the future and picked the musicians who we thought (well, hoped) might make an impact in the next twelve months and beyond; our many choices range from Denver's husband-and-wife duo of Tennis to the brash British pop of The Vaccines to Long Island's ever-cool quintet, Twin Sister.
