Underworld Will Be Music Directors of 2012 London Olympics Opening Ceremonies

UK electronic duo Underworld have been tapped to be the music directors of the opening ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics. Rick Smith and Karl Hyde will work with director Danny Boyle, artistic director of the opening ceremonies and a longtime collaborator with Underworld, for the three-hour extravaganza to take place on July 27.

TAS Interview: Karl Hyde of Underworld

British dance and electronica innovators Underworld kicked off their too-brief North American tour last night in Washington D.C., supporting their new, collaboration-driven album Barking.  The Essex-based duo of composer/producer Rick Smith and vocalist/guitarist Karl Hyde play New York's Roseland Ballroom on October 27, but first, they make their Stateside television debut on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" tonight, October 26. The Alternate Side caught up with Karl and chatted about the fresh approach which sparked Barking, painting and his truly inimitable (and ever-expanding) record collection.

Underworld Announce Additional U.S. Tour Dates

Underworld, the influential electronic duo of Rick Smith and Karl Hyde, release their eighth album, Barking, in the States tomorrow, September 14, and will follow that up with five U.S. dates this October. The gigs include a stop at New York's Roseland on October 27.

Underworld To Release Sixth Studio Album, Barking, in September

Dance and electronica innovators Underworld, who were last seen in the New York area playing All Points West in 2008, will release Barking, the followup to 2007's Oblivion with Bells, in September. The album will be the duo's first time working with a team of production collaborators, including High Contrast, Mark Knight and D. Ramirez, Dubfire and Paul van Dyck.
