Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong To Close Out 'American Idiot' Broadway Run

It's been a rough day for Broadway's rock 'n' roll musicals. In addition to the news on Thursday that U2's  Bono,The Edge and producers had determined that the struggling Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark needed a new creative team, sacking director Julie Taymor,  it was announced that Green Day's American Idiot would close on April 24. The good news? Billie Joe Armstrong will play "St. Jimmy" for the last three weeks of the show's run.

U2, who were forced to cancel or postpone a slew of tour dates following Bono's emergency back surgery in Munich in May, have announced their rescheduled dates. The band will pick up in August with their European tour and will return to North America next spring and summer.

Since the singer will need at least two months to recover, all tour dates for June and July - including stops at the Glastonbury Festival and Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey - are off. As for Glastonbury, Jimmy Page hints that Led Zeppelin could step into the spot now left vacant by Bono and the boys.
