TAS In Session: Flashback 2011, Part 2

Last week, The Alternate Side posted the first part of TAS in Session: Flashback 2011 featuring artists like The Drums, Laura Marling and Real Estate. This week, round two of some of The Alternate Side and our sister station WFUV's favorite performances from the last year, including the pensive wizardry of James Blake, the stirring poetry of Elbow and the sprawling pop boulevards crossed by Fool's Gold.  In addition to revisiting highlights, like Low's far-from-somnolent "Try To Sleep," or YACHT's incendiary "Dystopia," we'll also link to the original sessions and update you on what's coming up in 2012 for many of TAS' notable artists and bands.

Twin Sister: TAS In Session

Twin Sister is a clever exercise in duality. The band is from Long Island and Brooklyn. They love a good disco tune, but relish a melancholy twist. After releasing their crafty 2010 EP Color Your Life, which featured the breathy kiss of "All Around And Away We Go," Twin Sister signed with Domino Records. Their debut album, In Heaven, came out earlier this  year. The band plays Bowery Ballroom on December 17 and they  dropped by The Alternate Side not long ago for a session, playing In Heaven selections like "Bad Street" and "Daniel." You can hear the session this Friday, December 9 on TAS on 91.5 WNYE or streaming on The Alternate Side.

Long Island's Twin Sister Signs To Domino Records

Long Island's Twin Sister, whose strong 2010 EP, Color Your Life, showed off a knack for both discoball anthems ("All Around And Away We Go") and more ethereal walkabouts ("Lady Daydream"), have signed to Domino Records for their debut album, set for release later in 2011. They embark on a tour beginning June 3, accompanying Beirut on several dates, and landing at Brooklyn's  Northside Festival on June 18.

Breaking Bands: Which New Faces Will Cause A Commotion In 2011?

As we boot 2010 out the door and get ready to begin not only a brand new year, but a freshly minted decade, what up-and-coming bands and artists will make their mark on 2011? The Alternate Side staff gazed into the future and picked the musicians who we thought (well, hoped) might make an impact in the next twelve months and beyond; our many choices range from Denver's husband-and-wife duo of Tennis to the brash British pop of The Vaccines to Long Island's ever-cool quintet, Twin Sister.

TAS Favorite Albums And Singles Of 2010

Along with mistletoe, mulled wine and overused credit cards, one of the more dependable signs of December is the inevitable discourse on the best albums and singles of the year. The Alternate Side staff has compiled a list of favorites and earworms of 2010, our own personal soundtrack guiding us through the last twelve months.
