TAS In Session Flashback 2012: Part Two

Throughout the last year, The Alternate Side staff has chatted with dozens of up-and-coming and established bands in our live sessions, spanning the globe from Dalama, Sweden (The Tallest Man On Earth) to Toronto, Canada (Metric) to San Francisco, California (Geographer). The first part of our TAS in 2012 retrospective was published last week, and as we dive into 2013, we're revisiting more of those sessions — and live performance videos — that we liked. We'll also report on what's coming up for those bands in 2013. We also offer up another big round of applause for the intrepid WFUV/The Alternate Side engineering and video teams too.

Win Tix To Twin Shadow And Niki And The Dove At Webster Hall On September 27

It's a double dose of 80s-enamored electro-pop as singer and novelist Twin Shadow (yes, George Lewis, Jr. is a scribe as well) and Stockholm's sleek and theatrical Niki and The Dove play Webster Hall on September 27. It's a great bill and TAS has a handful of tickets to give away if you enter to win by August 12 at 5 p.m. EDT.

Lollapalooza Reopens After Storm Evacuation

The Lollapalooza festival in Chicago's Grant Park was shut down and evacuated on Saturday afternoon after a freakishly intense storm system passed through the city. After nearly three hours, and the postponement of sets by Twin Shadow, tUnE-yArDs, Frank Ocean, Chairlift, Washed Out — appropriately — and more, the festival reopened, but the set schedule was altered. Lollapalooza is being streamed by YouTube this weekend here.

Twin Shadow: TAS In Session

A motorbike accident isn't a common catalyst for an album, but Twin Shadow's Confess, out today in the UK and on Tuesday in the States on 4AD, was born of singer and composer George Lewis Jr.'s altered perspective following a crash. Lewis'  admiration of sleek 80s electro-pop and rock is also evident on Twin Shadow's sophomore album, the followup to 2010's Forget, as demonstrated on the grand Bruce Springsteen-meets-Berlin "Five Seconds." The soft-spoken frontman discussed what a gap of two years taught him when he and his Twin Shadow bandmates visited The Alternate Side for an interview and live set. Listen to Twin Shadow's session when it airs this Friday, July 13, at 11 a.m. EDT on TAS on 91.5 WNYE, streaming on the TAS site.

Stream Twin Shadow's New Album 'Confess'

Twin Shadow's George Lewis Jr. releases his new album, Confess, on July 9 in the UK and July 10 in the States via 4AD, but you can listen to the album streaming now. Even better, The Alternate Side will post our live session with Twin Shadow next week. Twin thrills.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart Hit The Road This March

Euphoric dream-pop purveyors The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, who release their sophomore album, Belong, in March, will kick off a U.S. tour that month with Twin Shadow and Catwalk, concluding at New York's Webster Hall on May 6. Plus, The Depreciation Guild, drummer Kurt Feldman's other band, calls it quits but will play a final show this month.
