TAS In Session Flashback 2012: Part Two

Throughout the last year, The Alternate Side staff has chatted with dozens of up-and-coming and established bands in our live sessions, spanning the globe from Dalama, Sweden (The Tallest Man On Earth) to Toronto, Canada (Metric) to San Francisco, California (Geographer). The first part of our TAS in 2012 retrospective was published last week, and as we dive into 2013, we're revisiting more of those sessions — and live performance videos — that we liked. We'll also report on what's coming up for those bands in 2013. We also offer up another big round of applause for the intrepid WFUV/The Alternate Side engineering and video teams too.

The TAS Staff Picks Our Top Albums And Singles Of 2012 ... So Far

The first half of 2012 has already come and gone. The Alternate Side staff, looking at the scores of WAV files, MP3s, CDs and even vinyl singles we've trundled through over the past six months, is slightly overwhelmed by the abundance of good music, so we've made some midpoint selections for our top 10 (or 11) albums and tracks of the year thus far. We have the freedom to change our minds completely by December, but in the meantime, bands and artists like Japandroids, Jack White, Hot Chip, The Walkmen, 2:54, Zeus, Public Service Broadcasting, Father John Misty, Cold Specks, Alt-J, Bobby Womack and Damon Albarn have made the cut. Read the lists after the jump.

Perfume Genius: TAS In Session

The raw, devastating intimacy of the music of Mike Hadreas, who works as Perfume Genius, first garnered the Seattle-based singer and songwriter notice with his startling debut, 2010's Learning. His unflinching, vulnerable examination of addiction, despair, sexual abuse and self-discovery remains as vivid on his sophomore album, Put Your Back N 2 It, out now on Matador/Turnstile, but as Hadreas admitted when he visited The Alternate Side last month, there is a more buoyant approach to the music on this record, despite its troubling undertow. Listen to Perfume Genius' excellent session on TAS on 91.5 WNYE this Friday, March 9 at 11 a.m. EST, also streaming on The Alternate Side. After the jump, read highlights of the interview and watch exclusive live performances of "Hood," "Seventeen" and "Take Me Home."
