First Listen: Passion Pit's 'Gossamer'

Gossamer is a perfect title for Passion Pit's new record. The long-awaited follow-up to its breakthrough album, 2009's Manners, finds the band spinning shimmering silk from many intricately layered threads: airy synths, warm bass, crisp snares, crashing cymbals, singer Michael Angelakos' expressive falsetto. Each song positively glows. Listen to the album streaming via WFUV and NPR Music now. (Ed.Note: Passion Pit have just cancelled all of its July dates, including its stop at New York's Apollo Theater on July 23; update after the jump).

Passion Pit Return With New Album This July

It's hard to believe that three years have passed since Passion Pit released Manners, but the band returns this summer with Gossamer, due out on July 24 in the States via Columbia Records. Singer and songwriter Michael Angelakos calls the album lyrically candid and fans will hear the new, emotionally resonant material when Passion Pit tours the festival circuit, including New York's Governors Ball event in June.
