Since its inception, the Odd Future collective has been criticized for its often harshly homophobic and misogynistic lyricism. So it's slightly startling that in a surprising admission early this morning, the group's Frank Ocean, who releases his first full-length solo album Channel Orange on July 17, has revealed that his first true love was a man. Describing a profound but one-sided love affair that unfolded over three years, Ocean published an emotional, public letter on his Tumblr account and website on Independence Day, noting that by discussing the romance, he feels like a "free man."

GLAAD Objects To Tyler, The Creator's MTV VMA Moonman Win

Although MTV tried its best to create immediate headlines with Lady Gaga's tiresome Jo Calderone spoof and Beyoncé's baby bump, a headline they were likely not expecting was the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD)'s firm objection against giving controversial rapper Tyler, the Creator of Odd Future a VMA Moonman for best new artist. As GLAAD's Matt Kane notes in a blog post yesterday, Tyler "writes some of the most violently anti-gay and misogynistic music currently enjoying mainstream recognition."
