TAS In Session (NYC and Glastonbury Preview): Noah And The Whale

Britain's thoughtful popsters Noah and the Whale are currently swinging through the States, landing at New York's Irving Plaza on June 18, their last gig before heading to the sprawling Glastonbury Festival on June 25, followed by a packed summer of European and UK festivals. They'll also be at Lollapalooza in August. The quartet, led by the soft-spoken, heart-on-his-sleeve singer and songwriter Charlie Fink, recently dropped by The Alternate Side to chat with WFUV's Claudia Marshall and performed four songs from their excellent new album, Last Night On Earth. Plus, check out (and download) the bouncy - dare we say happy? - RAC mix of "Tonight's the Kind of Night" after the jump.

TAS Interview: Noah and the Whale

The trajectory of Noah and the Whale's career has been carefully crafted over three albums, from the deceptively sunny insouciance of their 2008 debut, Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down, to the personal heartbreak (and rebound) of 2009's The First Days of Spring, to the brighter, more observant spirit of their new album, Last Night On Earth. The Alternate Side caught up with singer and songwriter Charlie Fink and violinist Tom Hobden to chat about the band's subtle and smart new album, the eclectic influences that guided them and what SXSW really means to young bands.

TAS In Session: Noah And The Whale

Noah and the Whale transform heartbreak into meditative, orchestral grandeur on their new album First Days of Spring. The band's Charlie Fink and Tom Hobden dropped by The Alternate Side during the first days of November for an exclusive acoustic session, playing "Blue Skies," "Slow Glass" and "I Have Nothing" (video after the jump)
