Win Special Ticket Package To 70th Birthday Tribute To Curtis Mayfield At Lincoln Center On July 20

It has been 13 years since the great Curtis Mayfield, one of the world's most influential artists in soul, rock, funk and R&B, passed away, nearly a decade after a tragic 1990 accident left him paralyzed. Poignantly, Mayfield would have marked his 70th birthday this year and that celebratory occasion will be marked by an all-star concert, "Here But I'm Gone: A 70th Birthday Tribute To Curtis Mayfield," on July 20 at Avery Fisher Hall, part of the Lincoln Center Festival. Special guests include The Roots, TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone, Aloe Blacc, Sinéad O'Connor, Mavis Staples, Bilal and Mayfield's former band The Impressions. The Alternate Side is giving one lucky winner a four-ticket package to attend the concert; enter by Sunday, July 15 at 5 p.m. EDT.

Mavis Staples, The Head And The Heart, Dawes, Josh Ritter Shine At WFUV's Holiday Cheer

By the time Mavis Staples had transformed New York's Beacon Theatre into a sultry New Orleans gospel tent, carrying the show home with a spirited — and often spiritual — hour-long set, WFUV's 7th annual Holiday Cheer concert had already proved the invaluable bond between artist, radio station and audience. Dawes, The Head and the Heart and special guest Josh Ritter played powerful sets, both ruminative and rowdy, and declared their affection for The Alternate Side's sister station, WFUV, during the station's benefit event on Monday night, December 5. After the jump, photos and setlists.

All Holiday Cheer ticket holders are eligible to win a $500 Fairway shopping spree.
