Barbarossa: TAS Tour Diary

Barbarossa, the London-based electronic producer James Mathé, balances his solo work with his role as a touring member of Junip. In August, Barbarossa released his handsomely soulful album Bloodlines via Memphis Industries. The Alternate Side asked Mathé, who has been touring the States with Junip this fall, if he'd keep a tour diary of his September swing through Germany, which involved misplaced rucksacks, memorable gigs and sauerkraut.

Junip: TAS In Session

Tags: Junip

Although Junip, the Sweden-based trio of José González, Tobias Winterkorn and Elias Araya, got slightly sidelined a decade ago as González' solo career took off, the band has more than made up for the delay. Junip's second, self-titled album continues from where 2010's Fields left off, mixing a maze of bold, sharply melodic layers with a melancholy drift. Watch Junip in session with FUV and TAS and listen to González and Winterkorn in conversation with Russ Borris on FUV Live tonight, July 8, at 9 p.m. ET (also streaming) and on TAS on 91.5 WNYE this Friday, July 12, at 11 a.m. ET, also available online.

TAS In Session: Junip

While Swedish singer and songwriter José González' solo career took off over the last decade, Junip, the band that he'd begun with friends Elias Araya and Tobias Winterkom, was on indefinite hiatus, save a single and an EP. The trio finally remedied that problem with last year's release of their debut album Fields. The band, which has a new EP upcoming called In Every Direction and will play Bonnaroo this June, dropped by Studio A not too long ago for a special session with WFUV's Rita Houston.
