The Antlers, Elbow And James Blake Sessions Noted As Faves Of TAS Engineering And Video Staffers

Behind every one of 2011's TAS or WFUV sessions in Studio A was an engineer who handled the mix, charged with the responsibility of making notable bands and artists like Feist, James Blake, Elbow, The Naked and Famous, The Antlers, Fruit Bats and more sound as good as possible for on-air broadcast. The bulk of the sessions are also taped by a video team, who are learning to capture performances in a visually exciting way. As the year comes to an end, the TAS video and engineering teams,  most of them students at Fordham University, chose the most rewarding or meaningful sessions they worked on over the last year.

TAS In Session: James Blake

James Blake's unusual permutations of electronica, pop and dubstep has swiftly elevated the 22-year-old British producer's first album, which dropped earlier this year, as one of the most important debuts of 2011.  Blake's ambient, often unsettling and frequently gorgeous music  might not be easy mainstream fare, but he's managed to sell out most venues touring the UK and US. Blake, who plays New York's Webster Hall this Wednesday, July 13, and Chicago's Pitchfork Music Festival this weekend, recently visited The Alternate Side with his bandmates to play several songs from his self-titled debut, including "The Wilhelm Scream" and his cover of Leslie Feist's "Limit To Your Love."
