TAS In Session Flashback 2012: Part One

Over the past year, The Alternate Side staff has relished the chance to interview dozens of bands, hailing from all over the world, from Stockholm, Sweden (Niki & The Dove) to Ballarat, Australia (Gold Fields) to Omaha, Nebraska (Icky Blossoms). We loved all of the interviews we did with bands and over the next two weeks, we'll look back at some of those sessions — and live performance videos — that were most meaningful to us in 2012 and report on what's coming up for those bands in 2013. A big thanks to WFUV/The Alternate Side's outstanding engineering and video teams too.

Husky: TAS In Session

Some albums get tagged as "autumnal" in nature and Husky's impressive debut Forever So fits that bill; there's a dusky, evocative cast to the Melbourne band's songs. The Aussie folk-rockers are currently touring North America, playing Mercury Lounge this Thursday, November 15 (and TAS is giving away tickets too). Not long ago, Husky visited Studio A for a five-song set which airs this Friday, November 16, on TAS on 91.5 WNYE at 11 a.m. EST, also streaming on the TAS site. Watch the videos from Husky's set, including their breakthrough single "History's Door" and the group's cool cover of Leonard Cohen's "Lover Lover Lover."

Folk rockers Husky are a long way from their Melbourne, Australia base these days; the band toured the States this summer supporting its debut album, Forever So, and they'll return in late October for headlining dates. The harmonizing quartet dropped by The Alternate Side recently to perform a set; we'll post that session later this fall, but we loved the band's acoustic, three-vocal version of Leonard Cohen's 1974 song "Lover Lover Lover."  Check out the video — an early preview of Husky's excellent session — after the jump.

Husky is not only a band; it also happens to be the first name of frontman Husky Gawenda who leads the Melbourne, Australia folk rock quartet that just released its debut, Forever So, Stateside. The band plays New York's Summerstage on August 18 — for Australia Day — and Joe's Pub on August 21; The Alternate Side is giving away tickets to catch this fast-rising band at Joe's Pub.
