Gil Scott-Heron Dies At 62

Just a year after staging a remarkable comeback with the 2010 album, I'm New Here, followed earlier this year by a well-received remix collaboration with Jamie xx, the poet, musician, author and activist Gil Scott-Heron died on Friday, May 27, at the age of 62 in a New York hospital. The remix collaboration between the xx's Jamie Smith and Gil Scott-Heron, We're New Here, a reconfiguration of Scott-Heron's 2010 album I'm New Here, doesn't drop until February 22 in the States and February 23 in the UK, but another track from it has surfaced on Scott-Heron's website.

The xx To Remix Gil Scott-Heron's New Album

The xx's Romy Madley Croft confirms that bandmate Jamie Smith will officially remix hip-hop legend Gil Scott-Heron's latest album I'm New Here. Smith says that he's been "doing it on my laptop on tour."
