Friends: TAS In Session (SXSW 2012)

Along with other generically-named bands, like Real Estate and Girls, Brooklyn's Friends play hard-to-get when it comes to Google searches, but this quintet of longtime friends has generated a lot of interest despite their nascent, two-single career thus far.  They launch a tour with Metronomy this month, playing two dates at New York's Irving Plaza on March 29-30. Friends' still-untitled debut album doesn't drop until May, but the band, which just played SXSW, recently visited The Alternate Side for a terrific five-song session, airing Friday, March 23, on TAS on 91.5 WNYE at 11 a.m. ET and streaming on The Alternate Side. After the jump, check out videos of that set and highlights of the interview.

Watch Friends Perform "My Boo" (Ghost Town DJ's Cover) At The Alternate Side

Brooklyn quintet Friends, which is headed to SXSW next month, won't release its still-untitled debut album until May, but the band dropped by The Alternate Side last week for a five-song set. They even treated us (our request) to their fantastic cover of Ghost Town DJ's 1996 hit, "My Boo," the B-side to their slinky 2011 single "I'm His Girl." The entire session with Friends will run next month on The Alternate Side and TAS on 91.5 WNYE,  but after the jump, enjoy an exclusive live TAS performance of "My Boo" from the group's dynamic set.

Breaking Bands 2012: TAS Staff Picks Next Year's New Faces To Watch

Looking ahead to 2012, The Alternate Side staff — not normally betting folk — are gambling that bands and artists like Alabama Shakes, Daughter, Gary Clark Jr., Hospitality, 2:54, Zambri, Lucy Rose, The Cold and Lovely and Friends will making a significant impact over the next twelve months. At the very least, we're really looking forward to their debut (or next) albums. After the jump, check out our full list with audio streams and videos.
