TAS In Session Flashback 2012: Part Two

Throughout the last year, The Alternate Side staff has chatted with dozens of up-and-coming and established bands in our live sessions, spanning the globe from Dalama, Sweden (The Tallest Man On Earth) to Toronto, Canada (Metric) to San Francisco, California (Geographer). The first part of our TAS in 2012 retrospective was published last week, and as we dive into 2013, we're revisiting more of those sessions — and live performance videos — that we liked. We'll also report on what's coming up for those bands in 2013. We also offer up another big round of applause for the intrepid WFUV/The Alternate Side engineering and video teams too.

Exitmusic: TAS In Session

Tags: Exitmusic

Exitmusic's Aleksa Palladino and Devon Church have forged a profound partnership. The couple came together in a romantic, cinematic way and over the course of two albums, the most recent being Passage, they've created an artistic identity which is beautifully beguiling and darkly unsettling. Exitmusic will play Hoboken's Maxwell's on September 26, and they recently journeyed to the Bronx for a live session in Studio A. Listen to the session this Friday, September 7 at 11 a.m. EDT on TAS on 91.5 WNYE and streaming on the TAS site. Watch Exitmusic's performance and read interview highlights here.

Watch Poliça's New Video For 'Dark Star'

Poliça kicked off a tour of the States this past weekend, a cross-country amble (that includes one Canadian date in Vancouver) that brings the band to New York's Webster Hall on October 6. To mark the tour's start, the re-release of  the group's debut Give You The Ghost via Mom + Pop Records and the release of a "Dark Star" remix EP, Channy Leaneaugh and her cohorts have released a new video for "Dark Star." Watch the video, which features Leaneaugh slinking around in a hoodie and looking suitably mysterious, here.

Win Tix To School Of Seven Bells At Le Poisson Rouge On May 5

School of Seven Bells is just the duo of Benjamin Curtis and Alejandra Deheza now, after Deheza's twin sister Claudia quit in 2010 for rather cryptic reasons. Despite the split, SVIIB's layered, luminous dream-pop remains as powerful on the band's third album, Ghostory which was released in February. The Alternate Side is giving away tickets to see the New York based band, joined by Exitmusic, at Le Poisson Rouge on May 5.

We also have Austin-brewed band blogs courtesy of Spanish Prisoners, Exitmusic, AU, Jonquil, Bishop Morocco, Zeus and Sleepy Sun.  And finally, live performances from Alabama Shakes and Shearwater, thanks to our sister station WFUV.

Win Tickets To The Joy Formidable At Terminal 5 On March 28

The Joy Formidable has spent the better part of the last four years on the road maintaining a tireless schedule, nurturing its bold, uplifting dream rock, and graduating from tiny clubs to major venues. For over a year the Welsh-English trio has supported its confident 2011 debut, The Big Roar, with headlining shows, major festivals and support gigs with Foo Fighters. They return Stateside this spring for another string of dates and will headline Terminal 5 on March 28, joined by two excellent New York bands, A Place To Bury Strangers and Exitmusic, and The Alternate Side is giving away tickets for what promises to be a great — and very loud — night.

New York's own Exitmusic, the beguiling duo of Aleksa Palladino and Devon Church, finally release their beautifully temperamental debut album, Passage, on May 22 via Secretly Canadian. The Alternate Side asked Palladino, who also stars on HBO's "Boardwalk Empire," if she'd keep a blog for us detailing some of Exitmusic's Austin discoveries. Check out the blog, Palladino's photos and the track "Passage," from their soon-to-be-released album, after the jump.

The Joy Formidable Set For Headlining Tour This March

Shoegazing Welsh-English rockers The Joy Formidable, who tirelessly toured last year supporting their official debut The Big Roar and even opened for The Foo Fighters, return to North America this March for another batch of dates, including a stop at New York's Terminal 5 on March 28.
