The Antlers, Elbow And James Blake Sessions Noted As Faves Of TAS Engineering And Video Staffers

Behind every one of 2011's TAS or WFUV sessions in Studio A was an engineer who handled the mix, charged with the responsibility of making notable bands and artists like Feist, James Blake, Elbow, The Naked and Famous, The Antlers, Fruit Bats and more sound as good as possible for on-air broadcast. The bulk of the sessions are also taped by a video team, who are learning to capture performances in a visually exciting way. As the year comes to an end, the TAS video and engineering teams,  most of them students at Fordham University, chose the most rewarding or meaningful sessions they worked on over the last year.

TAS In Session: Flashback 2011, Part 2

Last week, The Alternate Side posted the first part of TAS in Session: Flashback 2011 featuring artists like The Drums, Laura Marling and Real Estate. This week, round two of some of The Alternate Side and our sister station WFUV's favorite performances from the last year, including the pensive wizardry of James Blake, the stirring poetry of Elbow and the sprawling pop boulevards crossed by Fool's Gold.  In addition to revisiting highlights, like Low's far-from-somnolent "Try To Sleep," or YACHT's incendiary "Dystopia," we'll also link to the original sessions and update you on what's coming up in 2012 for many of TAS' notable artists and bands.

The TAS Top 20 Albums For 2011

The Black Keys, M83, PJ Harvey And More On TAS Staff's Best Of 2011

The Alternate Side staff both loves — and dreads — the annual rush of ubiquitous end-of-year lists, sifting through the best albums and singles of the twelve months gone by. There are usually far too many records or songs we'd like to mention, so consider the following just a start of what we really enjoyed in 2011, leaping from The Black Keys to tUnE-yArDs to Elbow to Little Dragon. And feel free to add your comments on what you liked too — we'd love to hear from you.
