TAS In Session Flashback 2012: Part One

Over the past year, The Alternate Side staff has relished the chance to interview dozens of bands, hailing from all over the world, from Stockholm, Sweden (Niki & The Dove) to Ballarat, Australia (Gold Fields) to Omaha, Nebraska (Icky Blossoms). We loved all of the interviews we did with bands and over the next two weeks, we'll look back at some of those sessions — and live performance videos — that were most meaningful to us in 2012 and report on what's coming up for those bands in 2013. A big thanks to WFUV/The Alternate Side's outstanding engineering and video teams too.

Alt-J Wins The 2012 Mercury Music Prize

Alt-J has emerged from the pack of 12 shortlisted nominees as the winner of the 2012 Mercury Prize, arguably the most venerable and meaningful of the annual British music awards given to a band or artist from the UK or Ireland. The Mercury Prize was handed out at London's Roundhouse on Thursday night following performances from all of the nominees, from Alt-J to Jessie Ware

Django Django: TAS In Session

The Mercury Prize, the apotheosis of Britain's prestige music awards, will be handed out this Thursday, November 1, in London. One of the twelve shortlisted nominees most heavily favored to win is Django Django, the percussively-driven Edinburgh-born quartet that released its critically-acclaimed eponymous debut earlier this year. A few weeks ago, Django Django visited The Alternate Side for a terrific session which airs this Friday, November 2, at 11 a.m. EDT on TAS on 91.5 WNYE, also streaming on the TAS site. Check out Django Django's live performances of "Default," "Life's a Beach" and more.

Django Django: SXSW 2012 Interview With David Maclean

Claiming one of the best-reviewed debut albums of this still-young year, Edinburgh's Django Django dived headlong into their first trip to SXSW, consummating a journey that began back in 2008 when the quartet first formed. They've been often compared to The Beta Band and for a pretty good reason; Django Django's drummer, producer and singer David Maclean happens to be the brother of The Beta Band's keyboard player John Maclean. The Alternate Side's Alisa Ali met up with David MacLean at the Hotel San Jose and learned about all of those Django Django rumors that are simply not true.
