Hold On! It's Alabama Shakes Live From SXSW 2012

Long hyped as one of the major breakout bands of SXSW 2012, Alabama Shakes have proved their mettle at showcase after showcase in Austin this week. On Friday at the Hotel San Jose, WFUV and The Alternate Side shot exclusive video of their performance of "Hold On," from their debut album Boys & Girls, due out on April 10 on ATO Records in the States and April 9 globally via Rough Trade. After the jump, check out video of their gutsy performance, led by the mighty, ferocious vocals of Brittany Howard.

TAS And WFUV SXSW 2012 Coverage Includes Live Broadcasts, Springsteen And Much More

Both WFUV and The Alternate Side will be in Austin this week for the SXSW music festival, the annual aggregation of emerging and established bands and the music industry. We want to bring our listeners down to Texas for the gigs, the barbecues and 6th Street mayhem. Beginning Thursday, March 15 and continuing through Sunday, March 18, TAS and WFUV will be broadcasting and streaming live performances from Alabama Shakes, Shearwater, Sharon Van Etten, Magnetic Fields, Andrew Bird and many more. Plus, look for special band blogs, video streams from NPR Music and on-site interviews on both the TAS and WFUV websites. After the jump, more on our SXSW set schedule, including WFUV's very own showcase.

Breaking Bands 2012: TAS Staff Picks Next Year's New Faces To Watch

Looking ahead to 2012, The Alternate Side staff — not normally betting folk — are gambling that bands and artists like Alabama Shakes, Daughter, Gary Clark Jr., Hospitality, 2:54, Zambri, Lucy Rose, The Cold and Lovely and Friends will making a significant impact over the next twelve months. At the very least, we're really looking forward to their debut (or next) albums. After the jump, check out our full list with audio streams and videos.
