Marco Benevento: TAS In Session

Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Marco Benevento has been gracefully blending his jazz roots with indie rockers, jam bands and an eclectic array of other musicians for more than a decade. The Brooklyn artist's latest studio album, Swift, is his most musically consistent and thematic record yet and finds him singing for the first time. Watch videos of Marco Benevento and his bandmates live in Studio A and listen to the entire session now in the FUV Vault or on TAS on 91.5 WNYE today, September 19, at 11a.m. EDT, also streaming online.

Dirty Projectors Return With Sixth Album This July

Veering away from some of the territory tread on their previous albums, Dirty Projectors' frontman David Longstreth will focus on "an album of songwriting" for the band's sixth release, Swing Lo Magellan, due out on July 10 (July 9 in UK/EU) on Domino Records.

Ticket Giveaway For The Shins At Terminal 5 On April 30

Tags: The Shins

The return of James Mercer and The Shins, after a five-year hiatus, marked a lineup shift for the band, but Mercer's thorny, pensive and keenly observed songcraft remains as interesting as ever on the band's fourth album, Port of Morrow. The Shins play the cavernous Terminal 5 on April 30 and The Alternate Side is giving away tickets to the show.

Win Tix To School Of Seven Bells At Le Poisson Rouge On May 5

School of Seven Bells is just the duo of Benjamin Curtis and Alejandra Deheza now, after Deheza's twin sister Claudia quit in 2010 for rather cryptic reasons. Despite the split, SVIIB's layered, luminous dream-pop remains as powerful on the band's third album, Ghostory which was released in February. The Alternate Side is giving away tickets to see the New York based band, joined by Exitmusic, at Le Poisson Rouge on May 5.

Win Tickets To The Vaccines At Webster Hall On April 23

The Vaccines' frontman Justin Young was silenced part of last year with vocal problems, for which he had to undergo several operations, but Young is on the mend and the band is back on the road. The Alternate Side is giving away tickets to The Vaccines' show at Webster Hall on April 23 and since the group is already recording its sophomore album, expect to hear new songs.

The Walkmen Return With 'Heaven' In June

New York's The Walkmen return this summer with a sixth album, Heaven, due out on June 5 (June 4 in the UK/EU). They've also set support dates with Florence and the Machine and a spot on the lineup for May's Crossing Brooklyn Ferry festival, curated by The National.

Young Magic: SXSW 2012 Blog

Although they've got Australian and Indonesian roots, Young Magic is based out of Brooklyn and have a brand new album, Melt, out now on Carpark Records. The band just kicked off their North American tour today, March 29, and will play Brooklyn's Cameo Gallery on April 6. The Alternate Side asked the three members of Young Magic if they'd keep a SXSW blog for us tracking the highs, the lows, the deflated air mattresses and the free tacos. They were a little tardy turning it in —  traveling and illness got in the way — but we forgive them.

The Alternate Side is a proud part of WFUV Public Radio from Fordham University,
