Liela Moss and Toby Butler of Duke Spirit have branched out of late with a side project, the dramatically dark, propulsiveRoman Remains. Earlier this month they released a debut album, Zeal, on Dhani Harrison's HOT Records, Ltd.
The duo has been touring North America with Gary Numan—they'll be at Webster Hall opening for the electronic music legend this Saturday, March 22—and earlier this week found Roman Remains gamely traipsing around Austin for an array of SXSW showcases.
The Alternate Side asked Liela Moss of Roman Remains if she'd blog about the band's Texas adventures for us—which involved Blondie, big hats and broken elevators:
Liela Moss' SXSW blog:
On arrival I switched my ride to something a bit more nippy, easier to load in the gear at the venues...
Some Texan porch action with our hosts, the Easton family. This year we ditched the hotel scene and went right to the heart of Austin, staying near Barton spring in a house ladies and gentlemen, and it has rockin' chairs. And a dog called Foxy.
A short but funny panic involving a stuck elevator full of Roman Remains and a fender amp.
Being a professional, I sit on a stool! Lively app people ask good questions.
Deborah Harry lets me in on her soundcheck and I am a little over excited
Yehaw. The hat shop was open and it has an impressive array.
Me and Gary Numan have a sweaty hug after our Buffalo Billiards shows. The relief of a SXSW show that has no soundcheck and no organization but somehow holds up...it's a sweet feeling when it all comes together. Not sure who the lady in the back is but she looks slightly terrifying.
Some street vibes
No comment. This kinda sums up the whole SXSW deal.
