Daughter's Elena Tonra

Watch: Daughter Perform 'Tomorrow' Live in Studio A

London-based trio Daughter has only released two EPs thus far, His Young Heart and The Wild Youth, but the band, guided by the hushed, achingly vulnerable vocals of Elena Tonra, has generated the same sort of feverish post-CMJ buzz as the one that accompanied the xx several years ago.

There's a similarity between Daughter and that other quiet trio; both bands deeply understand the power of silence and space, although Tonra's lyrics, in tracks like "Landfill" or "Youth," are searing in their explicitly candid nature. Daughter is signed to 4AD in the UK and Glassnote Records in the States and the band is currently working finishing the recording of their debut album, due out in early 2013.

Tonra and her bandmates, producer/guitarist Igor Haefeli (also Tonra's boyfriend) and drummer Remi Aguilella, wrap up their tour of the States tomorrow, October 30, in Los Angeles before heading back to Europe for more shows.

A couple of weeks ago, Daughter visited The Alternate Side for an interview and four-song set.  We'll run that session later this autumn, but as a sneak preview, check out Daughter performing the astonishingly beautiful "Tomorrow," live in Studio A, below:
