Grimes, Japandroids And Feist Shortlisted For 2012 Polaris Music Prize

Grimes, Japandroids, Feist, Drake and the now-defunct Handsome Furs are among the bands and artists announced on Tuesday for the 2012 Polaris Music Prize's shortlist, arguably Canada's most prestigious music honor.

The nominees are:

Drake - Take Care
Kathleen Edwards - Voyageur
Feist - Metals
F**ked Up - David Comes To Life
Grimes - Visions
Handsome Furs - Sound Kapital
Japandroids - Celebration Rock
Yamantaka//Sonic Titan - YT//ST

The award, akin to the UK's Mercury Music Prize, gives $30,000 to the Canadian winner of the honor, announced on September 24. The runners-up receive $2000.

Past winners of the Polaris Music Prize include Arcade Fire, Caribou, Patrick Watson and Final Fantasy.
