The deceptively upbeat debut from Purity Ring, Shrines, comes out on July 24 (July 23 in the UK) on 4AD and the Canadian duo has released their first video supporting it, a dreamily creepy, dripping-wet clip for "Fineshrine."
Whle singer Megan James might sound like the chirpy sibling of Grimes, Clare Grogan and Minnie Mouse set against an synth-swept burble, Purity Ring's morbid lyricism — imagine a really grim Grimm's fairy tale — makes Shrines one of the summer's most left-of-center debuts ... a bit like dancing to a soundtrack for the "CSI" franchise.
Purity Ring, touring this summer with Dirty Projectors, will also mark its official release day with a special gig, described as "immersive in-the-round" at New York's Le Poisson Rouge.
