Jack White, My Morning Jacket, MGMT Salute Public Radio Music Month

April marks Public Radio Music Month, an event that's not gone unnoticed by musicians and bands like Jack White, My Morning Jacket, MGMT, Best Coast, the Roots, Passion Pit and Wye Oak or indie labels like Jagjaguwar, Alligator and Sub Pop. They have all signed an open letter thanking public radio stations for "taking chances" and "asking intelligent questions" about music.

The letter of thanks says: "Dear Public Radio: Thank you for taking chances. Thank you for playing our music even when — especially when — it doesn't sound like everything else on the radio dial. Thank you for inviting us into your studios and asking intelligent quesions. Thank you for introducing us to some of the most important music in our lives, music that made us who we are. Thanks, public radio, for being who you are. Happy Public Radio Music Month."

Additional bands and artists who have signed the letter include Chairlift, Death Cab for Cutie, Low, Lost in the Trees, Shabazz Palaces, Fleet Foxes' Robin Pecknold, M. Ward, Groove Armada, Dave Matthews, The Decemberists and The Head and the Heart, who played WFUV's Holiday Cheer concert in December.
