Dirty Projectors Return With Sixth Album This July

Veering away from some of the territory tread on their previous albums, Dirty Projectors' frontman David Longstreth will focus on "an album of songwriting" for the band's sixth release, Swing Lo Magellan, due out on July 10 (July 9 in UK/EU) on Domino Records.

The band has posted one of the new songs, the smoothly propulsive and evocative "Gun Has No Trigger," on their website.

According to a press release, the new record, a year-long effort recorded in a so-called "weird house" in Delaware County, New York, was kickstarted from 40 finished demos and eventually reduced to a more manageable dozen tracks. Longstreth's accompanying lineup includes guitarist/vocalist Amber Coffman, bassist Nat Baldwin, drummer Brian McOmber and vocalist Haley Dekle (singer Angel Deradoorian is on hiatus).

Dirty Projectors has also begun to announce tour dates, including a local stop at Brooklyn's Prospect Park Bandshell on the album's release date, July 10, and a set at the Pitchfork Festival in Chicago over the weekend of July 13-15.
