Sharon Van Etten: SXSW 2012 Interview

Brooklyn's Sharon Van Etten, a veteran of many SXSW tours of duty, had a particularly powerful set at Stubbs on Wednesday night, as part of NPR Music's showcase, playing songs from her new album Tramp which dropped last month. Flanked by a new lineup and playing on the same bill as Andrew Bird and Fiona Apple, it was a triumphant night for Van Etten.

WFUV's Rita Houston caught up with the local favorite at Hotel San Jose in Austin and learned more about the genesis of Tramp, the wooing of The National's Aaron Dessner as producer and how New York constantly inspires her ... and kicks her butt. You can hear highlights from Sharon Van Etten's set tonight, March 16, on The Alternate Side on 90.7 WFUV and streaming here all weekend long.

The Alternate Side is a proud part of WFUV Public Radio from Fordham University,
