Women Guitarist Chris Reimer Dies At 26

Sad news. Guitarist Chris Reimer of the Calgary band Women died in his sleep on February 21 at the age of 26. Women, which released two albums — their 2008 self-titled debut and 2010's Public Strain — cancelled their European tour in November 2010 citing stress after a public onstage brawl between band members at a gig in Victoria, B.C.. It was the band's last public appearance and they went on hiatus. Reimer had gone on the road with The Dodos as their touring guitarist.

Pitchfork reported Reimer's passing which was confirmed by the band's label, Jagjaguwar, this morning.

Few details are known about Reimer's death yet, but his sister has set up a blog site in his memory.

Jagjaguwar issued a statement on their website: "We’re shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of Women guitarist, Chris Reimer. Chris’ virtuosic playing is one of the many reasons we fell in love with this band in the first place. If you were lucky enough to ever see them play live, you know what we mean. Always calm and collected while shredding. So much fun to watch. All of that aside, Chris was an incredible friend. He was one of the warmest and funniest people we’ve been lucky to know and work with. As sad as this is, it’s hard to not smile when thinking of him. Our love and support goes out to Chris’ family and friends. So so much love for you, Chris."
