Zooey Deschanel

Death Cab's Ben Gibbard and She & Him's Zooey Deschanel Split

It's been a heartbreaker of a month for indie rock stars. In mid-October, the long, 27-year marriage of Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon came to an end and today, November 1, Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard and She & Him's Zooey Deschanel announced that they're splitting after a two year marriage.

According to Us Weekly, Deschanel, who currently stars in the Fox comedy "New Girl," confirmed through her representatives that the separation is "mutual and amicable."

The couple got hitched in September 2009 after meeting through their music manager three years ago.

Death Cab for Cutie launch a European tour on November 11, returning for a handful of Stateside dates in December. They released Codes and Keys in May. Deschanel and M. Ward, as She & Him, just released their holiday album, A Very She & Him Christmas.

Unlikely that the next Death Cab album will be entitled 500 Days of Zooey, right?
