Trent Reznor Scores First Oscar Nod

Trent Reznor, who won a Golden Globe earlier this month for his score with Atticus Ross for The Social Network, snagged his first Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score this morning. The former Nine Inch Nails frontman is currently working with Ross again on the score to the upcoming The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, also directed by David Fincher, who helmed The Social Network.

Other contenders in the Best Original Score category are: Oscar winner and Slumdog Millionaire composer A.H.. Rahman for Danny Boyle's 127 Hours, Hans Zimmer, who collaborated with The Cribs and The Smiths' Johnny Marr for the Inception score, Alexandre Desplat for The King's Speech and John Powell for How To Train Your Dragon.

The Original Song category includes an Oscar nod for Rahman again, joined by lyricists and siblings Dido and Rollo Armstrong who first began working together in the dance band Faithless, for the song "If I Rise" from 127 Hours.  Randy Newman got his umpteenth nomination for "We Belong Together" from Toy Story 3.

The 83rd annual Academy Awards air on Sunday, February 27 on ABC.
