Vampire Weekend's "Giving Up The Gun" Video Features Jake Gyllenhaal, RZA, Lil Jon ... and Joe Jonas?

Jake Gyllenhaal, RZA, Lil Jon and The Jonas Brothers' Joe Jonas star in Vampire Weekend's latest video oeuvre for their second single from Contra, "Giving Up The Gun." The clip was co-directed by White Stripes documentarian Emmett Malloy ("The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights") who describes the shooting experience as one "action-packed day."

In an interview with Anthem magazine, Malloy says that the idea of a tennis game gone-to-hell, which includes a performance by the band, was thought up by Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig.

"We were able to work together and come up with a very good version of the idea he had originally conceived," explained Malloy who worked with his brother Brendan on the project. "It’s a video that I’m super proud of and it’s for a record that I’ve been listening to a lot prior to doing the video. It’s always fun to do those videos where it’s for a record that you feel is the record of the moment.

When asked to describe the goings-on in the cameo-rich clip, Malloy did his best to describe what he loosely termed as organized chaos: "We had RZA presiding over the tennis match. Lil Jon came down to give some tennis tips. Jake Gyllenhaal drank himself out of the competition; Joe Jonas tried, but did not succeed. There was a lot of rigorous competition, pyrotechnics, and a little bit of milk to cap it all off."

The video, which stars one of Vampire Weekend's personal friends in the lead role, premiered on Spinner today.
