Brooklyn synth-popsters Jupiter One, who kick off the next leg of their tour opening for Regina Spektor tonight in San Diego, recently visited The Alternate Side's Studio A for a live performance and interview with our own Alisa Ali.
The band - vocalist/guitarist/violinist K Ishibashi, guitarist/keyboardist Zac Colwell, drummer Dave Heilman and bassist Pat "Panda" Dougherty - released their sophomore album, Sunshower, last month on Ryko.
Alisa has more insights on the band's visit: "Considering that Jupiter One got their start in a traveling circus, it comes as no surprise that they dabble in more musical styles than you can cram under the big top. Each of the band members bring a unique style to the quartet. And they all contribute to the songwriting too, although K is the primary vocalist. Zac actually writes the majority of the songs and he told me that he and K tease each other about how clueless they are about the other's lyrics. Apparently, K didn't realize that 'Flaming Arrow,' which Zac wrote and he's been singing for months, was about a guy who kills his ex-girlfriend."
Hmm. At any rate, Jupiter One were good enough to play their very catchy, sweetly acoustic and apparently very dark single "Flaming Arrow" as well as "Simple Stones" and "Find Me A place." We also added the terrific animated video for "Flaming Arrow," directed by Robertas Nevecka, below.
